Carol Griese's "Painting Bold and Brave" Opening Reception

The Alex Dufresne Gallery is pleased to present Painting Bold and Brave, a vibrant exhibition of abstract acrylic works by artist Carol Griese. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Alex Dufresne Gallery, located within the Callander Bay Heritage Museum at 107 Lansdowne St. E.

Growing up in North Bay and now living in a forested setting outside Powassan, Carol draws inspiration from the natural world around her. Surrounded by trees, wildlife, birds, and the quiet beauty of the landscape, she has developed a deep appreciation for nature that continues to influence her creative journey.

Carol’s fascination with colour began in childhood when she collected pieces of broken glass, captivated by their brilliant hues and the way they reflected light. That early attraction to colour has remained a constant throughout a lifetime of artistic exploration.

Her artistic direction took a transformative turn when she was introduced to non-objective acrylic abstraction through artist and mentor Lila Lewis Irving. The experience opened new creative possibilities, challenging her to move beyond traditional artistic boundaries and embrace the freedom of abstract expression.

Through bold colour palettes, dynamic forms, and rich textures, Painting Bold and Brave celebrates the joy of experimentation and creative risk-taking. Carol’s work invites viewers to engage emotionally with each piece and experience the same sense of freedom and passion that inspired its creation.

The exhibition reflects Carol’s ongoing artistic evolution and her commitment to exploring new dimensions of abstract art. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet the artist and learn more about her creative process during the opening reception.
