Artist Jürgen Mohr Explores Creativity, Intuition, and Imagination in Beyond Palette and Paint

The Beyond Palette and Paint exhibition at the Alex Dufresne Gallery invites visitors to experience the transformative power of contemporary abstract art through the work of local artist Jürgen Mohr. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and will remain on display until October 31, 2026.

This exhibition features approximately 25 abstract works that explore creativity, intuition, color, design, and the fascinating possibilities of non-objective art. Visitors are invited to discover a collection that moves beyond the traditional and instead embraces imagination, symbolism, and the way art connects with viewers emotionally.

For Mohr, art is more than a creative outlet. It is a lifelong pursuit shaped by what he describes as an "inner necessity" to create. Drawing inspiration from art history, philosophy, spirituality, and personal experience, his paintings seek to express ideas and emotions that go beyond words.

"This exhibition is an exploration of abstract art in the modern tradition," says Mohr. "My process uses color, design, and intuitive responses to create visual relationships that communicate beyond representational subjects. At the heart of this work is the creative process itself."

There are works influenced by grid structures, collage-based compositions, and proportional design systems. Several paintings demonstrate innovative techniques in which completed artworks were cut into sections and reassembled to create entirely new visual experiences. These methods reflect Mohr's ongoing interest in experimentation and the possibilities of abstract expression.

Influenced by pioneers of modern art such as Wassily Kandinsky, Mohr's work encourages viewers to engage with art on a deeply personal level. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the paintings invite each viewer to discover meaning through their own experiences and perceptions.

The exhibition aims to introduce audiences to new perspectives on abstract art while demonstrating how creativity and intuition can lead to powerful artistic outcomes. The Alex Dufresne Gallery is located at 107 Lansdowne St. E. in the same building as the Callander Museum. There will be free museum admission and light refreshments during the reception and the artist will be present.
