The Alex Dufresne Gallery is pleased to present "Celebration of Change" Light and Shadow on the Path featuring the works of Ingrid Rudnik O'Gorman, which will be closing on Saturday June 25th.
The show explores the relationship of the cycle of the seasons from deterioration and death to rebirth and renewal and its connection and similarities to the journeys of our own lives. We are born, we grow, we mature and we pass away - is this where it ends or is this where we continue?
Spring brings hope, newness, and wonder, dreaming of gardens and flowers and the return on lengthening days which is then followed by summer with lazy hot days and warm peaceful evenings with friends and family around campfires – even a shadow on a sweltering day can be a treasure. Autumn is a time to have faith with cooling nights and gathering with community, the fulfillment of harvest before the coming of the winter and the time for reflection and pause before the birds begin to chirp again signaling the arrival of spring.
Rudnik O’Gorman didn’t start out painting with any particular theme or message. She tended to work very small (on ornaments, for example) or on very large murals and found that over the years a pattern began to emerge – telling stories through miniature memories that follow the seasons of life that connect us all.
Rudnik O’Gorman has been exhibiting since 1979 in a variety of shows throughout Ontario and has been a member of the Almaguin Highlands Art Council since 2011. This show will feature a variety of canvas paintings and ornaments that reflect and expand on the message of “change” and it will be her first solo exhibition. In her own words to create art is like breathing – it’s something she simply must do.
