What is Ecstatic Dance?

Ecstatic dance is a form of dance in which the dancers, without the need to follow specific steps, release themselves to the rhythm and move freely as the music takes them, leading to a feeling of ecstasy. Dancers have described feeling connected to others, and to their own emotions. The dance serves as a form of meditation, helping people to cope with stress and to attain serenity.

This will be the third Ecstatic Dance event at Ohana. The first two were AMAZING! Everyone shows up filled with enthusiasm to start dancing. It’s a super friendly, supportive, welcoming vibe. You’re welcome to stay for a brief social time after the dancing is done. Last but not least, quite a few people have come alone!

The Details:

• You can arrive at any time during the event
• We dance with bare feet (or socks, if you prefer)
• We dance without alcohol
• We keep talking to a minimum, although singing is welcome
• We are a fiercely inclusive environment – you are welcome no matter your age, race, mobility, culture, size, gender, etc. (Chairs will be provided for those that need a rest)
• We also embrace music from all over the globe.
• No experience, or companion, is needed
• We accept all expression through movement
• Please leave your instruments at home, this is a curated musical experience.
• Please avoid wearing any scented products
• Children must be accompanied by adults
• There is water at the event, please bring your own bottle or cup
• Comfortable, layered, clothing will make this event more enjoyable
